The little library that could

Located in the north part of Josephine County, the Wolf Creek library building was the library foundation’s first building project and was made possible by land donated by the Harry and Fern Steward Trust. Volunteers cleaned the property and the existing tiny library was replaced with a modern facility with bathrooms. Construction was completed in 2003 and made possible in part by:

  • Sunny Wolf Community Response Team

  • FourWay Community Foundation

  • Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation

  • Ben B. Cheney Foundation

  • Oregon Community Foundation

  • PacifiCorp Foundation

  • Carpenter Foundation

  • Southern Oregon Regional Economic Development

  • Community Development Block Grant

Volunteers formed a "bucket brigade" to move the books into the new building, and many community members attended the Grand Opening.

Storytime at the Wolf Creek library branch.

Today, the Wolf Creek library branch works closely with Sunny Wolf Charter School to provide students with library services. In 2019 the library partnered with Sunny Wolf to complete the Internet Infrastructure Project and run fiber broadband lines to the library branch. The $320,000 project was funded through the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) E-rate program, which provides affordable high-speed Internet access to libraries and schools. Through this program, the library district and Sunny Wolf Charter School qualified for a 90 percent discount on Internet access services. The library’s portion of the project was funded through Josephine County Economic Development Funds and the Carpenter Foundation.

The Wolf Creek library recently reconfigured and updated its children’s area with new shelving and furniture. It also added new technology to its meeting room to offer improved meeting facilities to the community.
